Not having 1-2 range in a game where conditions like rout exist is really bad thing. Lyn's issues still exist on Eliwood Normal Mode with less excuses since the speed threshold for Eliwood Normal Mode is lower, All of your good units hit it at base. Whether one chooses to use them over Guy or Raven is another matter entirely.Īlright even if we take out HHM and your deployment slots aren't as limited. Lyn has plenty of chapters for one to use her. It says something that the best defense for Roy dropping off as hard as they do is that him being less useful than other lords allows for one to find creative ways to beat the map without ever using him due to how prominent the seize objectives were in FE6. Say what you want about who the best option is in FE7 to promote with your first Heaven Seal (the correct answer is always Hector), at least you have the option to do so well before the final four chapters. Whereas Lyn is inconsistent in FE7, Roy is consistently mediocre throughout FE6, having weak bases and unimpressive growths while being completely unable to be promoted until nearly the end of the game. The Binding Blade is the exception and even that one has its drawbacks, namely a pitiful number of uses before it breaks. They really didn't like sword wielders given how few ranged options there were and how what few that existed were either weak or locked behind arbitrary means i.e. She's not the greatest lord or sword user (the fact that she gets bows in a game where non 1-2 range bow is a point against her) but her flaws are greatly exaggerated: She's a glass cannon who can deal a lot of damage with the Manni Katti that suffers from the same issue most other sword-locked characters in the GBA entries do. Specifically, the Hector Hard Mode argument is a load when the vast majority of people playing the game aren't doing so on the hardest difficulty and will be playing through her tale which will allow her to abuse the Manni Katti. Yeah I saw that video from Mekkkah too and quite frankly it makes a lot of assumptions about how one is planning to play FE7. It also helps that Binding Blade have a bunch of maps that are solely rout based where you don't want Lyn who can't contribute at all during enemy phases in your front lines. Lyn's promotion is the worst promotion in the GBA games because everyone else get's a 1-2 range in games that are enemy phase focused and her speed niche is meaningless in a game where speed barely matters.Ĭompare this to Roy, who at base level with the Binding Blade can still kill Idoun, Get's a 1-2 ranged weapon upon promotion, only struggles after midgame compared to Lyn who struggles right from the get go on HHM. It gets even worse for Lyn since she joins one chapter before Raven joins who is a way better unit than her, Not only is Lyn stuck in an easier game, She's in a game that's primarily enemy phase based with no tools to be useful during the enemy phase since she lacks 1-2 range options upon promotion. In terms on promo, You're always better off promoting Eliwood or Hector before her because they benefit way more from their promotions than Lyn does because both get WTAs with Swords (Hector) and Lances (Eliwood), The Sol Katti is one of the worst legendary weapon in FE7 because it does horrible damage to the final boss, weighs Lyn down to the point where she doesn't even double (The only good thing about her which doesn't even matter since FE7 has a bunch of enemies that have low speed) and a high crit rate isn't really a good thing if your damage output is really low. Alright let's go through why Lyn is worse than Roy.
